Lesotho and the highest pub in Africa

The trip to the Sani pass brought me- and this young German couple I had befriended for the day- to the high and windswept Kingdom of Lesotho.  The country is surrounded by SA is quite poor and many still lead a sheperd's life.  I was met a different customs experience at the border -

The shepherd's life here is hard, tho the people very friendly-

Sometimes they put tires on the top of their huts, ostensibly to ward off lightening.  Not sure whether they have a preference for Michelin, Firestone, etc.-

The border is also the home of the highest  pub in Africa.  How do I know?  Because there are signs everywhere telling one that.  They definitely stay on marketing message-

Not an easy life at this cold spot-
